Ultrasound

Ultrasound imaging uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time pictures of internal organs, tissues, and blood flow. This safe, non-invasive procedure is performed by skilled sonographers who use a device called a transducer, which is moved gently over the skin above the area of interest. At Dr Glenn & Partners Medical Imaging, we offer a comprehensive range of ultrasound services, including general, obstetric, musculoskeletal, breast, cardiac, and vascular imaging, to assist in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

FAQs

Yes, ultrasound exams require an appointment. To schedule, please call or visit us in person with your referral. Our team will confirm the next available time for your scan.

Preparation varies depending on the type of ultrasound. For some scans, fasting or a full bladder may be necessary. Our team will provide specific instructions when you book your appointment. Wearing loose, comfortable clothing is recommended, and you may need to change into an examination gown.

You will need:

  • Your referral form from your healthcare provider.
  • A Medicare or DVA card, if applicable.
  • For work-related injuries, please provide your WorkCover claim number or notify us if you intend to lodge a claim.

A trained sonographer will guide you through the process and explain each step. You will likely lie on a bed while a small amount of gel is applied to your skin. The transducer is then moved over the area of interest, producing real-time images on a screen. Depending on the type of ultrasound, you may need to sit upright or lie in a specific position.

At Dr Glenn & Partners Medical Imaging, we bulk bill most Medicare-eligible ultrasounds. Certain scans may have out-of-pocket fees, and our staff will inform you of any costs prior to your appointment.

Reports are usually available within 24 to 48 hours. For urgent cases, our team can work with the radiologist to expedite the process. If your doctor requires immediate follow-up, please let us know when you arrive.
