Dental Imaging

Dental imaging includes several techniques designed to evaluate the health of teeth, jaws, and facial joints. One of the most common methods is an OPG (orthopantomogram), a panoramic X-Ray that captures a comprehensive image of the upper and lower jaws, including all teeth. This method involves the imaging unit rotating around your head to create a detailed picture, aiding dentists in making precise diagnoses and treatment plans.

FAQs

In most cases, appointments are not required for dental imaging at Dr Glenn & Partners Medical Imaging, as we strive to reduce waiting times. However, specialised scans, such as a CT Dentascan, may require an appointment based on your referral.

Preparation is minimal:

  • Remove any metal items, such as piercings or jewellery, before the scan.
  • Arrive 15 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork.
Specific instructions for specialised scans will be provided when you book.

Ensure you bring the following:

  • Your referral form.
  • Your Medicare or DVA card if applicable.
  • If the scan is work-related, provide your WorkCover claim number, or notify us if you plan to lodge a claim.

A team member will guide you to the imaging room and explain the process. For OPGs and similar dental scans, you’ll stand or sit while the imaging unit rotates around your head. The procedure is painless and typically takes 5 to 15 minutes. Once complete, a radiologist will review the images and prepare a report for your dentist or referring healthcare provider.

At Dr Glenn & Partners, most Medicare-eligible dental scans are bulk-billed. However, some scans may incur a fee. Our team will confirm any associated costs at the time of booking.

Reports are usually available within 24 to 48 hours. If your doctor has advised an immediate follow-up, let us know, and we will prioritise your results.
