MRI
MRI is a cutting-edge imaging technique that uses powerful magnetic fields and advanced computer technology to create highly detailed images of the body’s internal structures. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, MRI does not use ionising radiation, making it a safe and non-invasive diagnostic tool for a wide range of medical conditions.
At Dr Glenn & Partners, we’re committed to providing exceptional care supported by world-class technology. That’s why we’re proud to introduce the SIGNA™ Hero MRI system – available exclusively at our Kogarah clinic.
Enhanced Comfort
The SIGNA™ Hero features a spacious 70cm wide-bore design, giving patients more room during their scan. Its innovative AIR™ coils are soft and flexible, wrapping around the body like a blanket for a more comfortable experience.
Unmatched Image Quality
With advanced AI-assisted technology, the SIGNA™ Hero delivers sharper, faster, and more efficient scans—ensuring clinicians receive the most precise information for accurate diagnoses.
Designed for Better Care
This new system enhances workflow and productivity, allowing our team to stay focused on what matters most: delivering the highest quality care in a calm, patient-centered environment.
FAQs
You can usually continue with your normal diet unless instructed otherwise. To ensure accuracy and safety:
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing free from metal fasteners or zippers.
- Remove all jewellery, watches, and any metallic items.
- Avoid wearing makeup or hair products such as sprays, gels, or powders, as some may contain metallic particles.
- We recommend leaving valuables at home.
Our team will provide specific preparation instructions when you book your appointment.
You will lie on a motorised table that slides into the MRI scanner, which resembles a tunnel. During the scan, you may hear loud knocking or buzzing sounds as the machine operates. It is essential to remain completely still to ensure clear and accurate images.
In some cases, a contrast agent may be administered via injection to enhance image quality and highlight certain areas of the body.
If you have certain types of metal implants, such as pacemakers, cochlear implants, or certain types of surgical clips, you may not be eligible for an MRI. Additionally, individuals with a history of working with metal tools like welders or grinders may require an X-Ray of their eyes beforehand to rule out metal particles.
If you experience claustrophobia, please inform our team in advance. We will discuss options to make the process more comfortable.
Most MRI scans take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the area being examined and the complexity of the scan.
